Pressure and Leak Testing Guide
BCAS has made its Pressure and Leak Testing Guide free to download from its website www.bcas.org.uk.
Industry 4.0 – a lack of urgency
A recent BCAS survey has revealed an apparent indifference towards industry 4.0 and the rise of new digital industrial technology with only 24% of compressed air end users stating that it is very important at the moment. Is it hype over reality, or a lack of awareness?
EcoDesign changes
While energy efficiency has been top of the agenda for the compressed air industry for years, the emphasis is set to change as far as the EU Commission is concerned. Instead, there will be a greater focus on resource efficiency and not purely on energy efficiency.
Expanding team
BCAS is expanding its technical capabilities with two new appointments. Tim Preece (left) is the society’s new technical officer and Roy Brooks (below) will fill a new position as technical development officer.
Helping bereaved children
BCAS is raising money for Winston’s Wish charity, which supports children and young people after the death of their mum, dad, brother or sister. The loss of a close relative is one of the most devastating and traumatic experiences that a child can face and the charity exists to ensure that every child can move forwards and face the future with hope, courage, confidence and strength.
New BCAS vice president
BCAS has appointed Tony Wilson as vice president. He currently has responsibility for operations for the Society. Wilson is business unit manager CAGT EMEA for Parker Hannifin’s Gas Generation and Filtration Division.
Brexit – one year on
Twelve months ago, the EU Referendum result was announced and BCAS members reported a more cautious approach to business. BCAS believes now is the time to look to the future. The Society adds that companies do not like uncertainty and the management of events through this key period is vital if industry is to make the most of opportunities.
Food and Beverage Guide
BCAS’ popular best practice guidance for food and beverage processors on the safe and efficient use of compressed air is now available for free download from www.bcas.org.uk.
Survey reveals dangers of using non-BCAS members
A survey of compressed air end users reveals that a significant number of those not using BCAS members experience problems and worse 19% could be left non-compliant with health and safety and environmental standards.
New appointments
BCAS has made two key appointments recently with Samuel Omojola joining as its new society officer, and Stephen Wright being elected as the Society’s new chairman of the Distribution Committee.
Compressed air supplier reviews
You can check out how BCAS members perform on the independent online review service AirRated at www.referenceline.com/bcas. The site provides customers with a chance to both provide feedback on their service. It also helps them to find recommended compressed air distributors based on these reviews and ratings.
Survey reveals potential dangers of using non-BCAS members
Not using a BCAS member for supply and service could leave you non-compliant with health & safety and environmental standards, a recent survey of compressed air users has revealed.
Measure to improve energy efficiency
Compressed air accounts for 10% of an industrial company’s electricity bill and for some can be far more. Knowing the system’s actual cost will help you justify targeted action to make your system more efficient, states Marion Beaver, technical officer, BCAS.
Pressure and Leak Testing Guide
BCAS has produced its new ‘Pressure and Leak Testing from Compressed Air Systems’ guides, which can be downloaded from www.bcas.org.uk.
Who is competent?
Exactly what is meant by a ‘competent person’ when referring to the drawing up and certifying of written schemes of examinations under the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000?
