New test rig now operational at C&C Hydraulics
At its premises in Keighley, West Yorkshire, C&C Hydraulics has built a new 6 metres high vertical test rig in order to load test telescopic cylinders. The new rig can reportedly handle cylinders up to 5 metres in stroke. Ian Couch, managing director at C&C Hydraulics, commented that since the company moved to its new 36,000 sq ft production facility in 2012, it has continued to develop and improve its armoury of production and test equipment.
Since the move, C&C has grown from 18 employees to 32 employees and now produces over 2000 hydraulic cylinders per month. In addition to the construction of the new test rig, C&C has also recently invested heavily in new production equipment and now has a total of 14 CNC machines; four of which are robot loaded and unloaded. Couch adds that the company has also sourced four new welding systems.
More specialism
“The investment in the new equipment has enabled us to design and manufacture more specialised hydraulic cylinders,” he said. “As well as traditional double acting cylinders we can now produce single acting displacement telescopic cylinders, synchronised telescopic cylinders ( or constant velocity ) for the lift industry and double acting telescopic cylinders.
Being highly quality conscious, Couch commented that the company has now standardised on using higher grade materials in the construction of all the cylinders it produces. “The new tube material we use has a skived and roller burnished finish in the bore giving a surface finish of Ra<0.3, which is better than traditional honed bore tubes,” he said.
According to Couch, this material also has an improved concentricity and straightness tolerance, making the production process easier to control and making the end product more accurate. The material is produced in Italy by one of the leading hydraulic tube manufacturers in Europe. To add to the tube improvements we have now also standardised on the Freudenburg SIMKO 300 pistons seals.
