Beko puts on its running shoes for Acorns Children’s Hospice

22 October, 2015

The aching limbs and blisters didn’t stop Martin Potter, general manager at Beko Technologies, from completing a 40km run along with 35 runners from the Redditch running club to raise money for Acorns Children’s Hospice. The recent run consisted of 8 park runs, each 5km starting at 7.30am at Cannon Hill in Birmingham, then onto Brueton Park at 9.00am, 10.30am Perry Hall, 12.00 Walsall Arboretum, 2.00pm Kingsbury Water, 15.30 Coventry, 5.00pm Leamington before arriving at Arrow Valley Park at 7.00pm in the evening for the last run. When they arrived at Arrow Valley Park in Redditch, the home of the running club they were met by over 200 supporters to see them on their final race of the day.

Established in 1988, Acorns Children's Hospice Trust is a registered charity offering a network of care for life limiting and life threatened children and young people, and their families, across the heart of England. These children and young people are not expected to reach adulthood and require specialist care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In the past year Acorns has supported over 760 children and more than 980 families, including those who are bereaved. The charity makes a positive difference to the lives and families they work with.

Beko Technologies has sponsored Potter in his challenge, which has helped the runners collectively raise over £5000 for the charity.

Potter commented: “It was a very tough challenge, but I can’t think of a better way of combining something we all love doing in running and raising a fantastic amount of money for a extremely worthwhile cause, now what next?”

Acorns provides a high level of care to vulnerable youngsters while offering a range of support services to the whole family to help them cope at every stage of their child's life and beyond into bereavement. Acorns relies on the community to fund the majority of its activities. For more information, visit: www.acorns.org.uk
