An Italian bicycle manufacturer has significantly improved its energy efficiency by upgrading its compressed air system, achieving a 30% reduction in energy consumption. This enhancement has supported the company's commitment to sustainability and high production standards. H&P reports

Cicli Adriatica, an Italian bicycle manufacturer, has chosen ELGi Compressors Europe, to optimise its compressed air system and drive energy savings at its plant in Pesaro, Italy. With the EN7V electric oil-lubricated rotary screw air compressor from the ELGi EN Series, Cicli Adriatica says it has achieved a 30% reduction in energy consumption, significantly surpassing the performance of its previous system.

Cicli Adriatica, established in 1946, operates from a 3200m2 facility, producing around 20,000 bicycles annually. Celebrated for its originality, quality, and reliability, Cicli Adriatica upholds the highest production standards. Essential components are meticulously designed and manufactured in-house from selected materials and undergo stringent quality controls and testing to ensure exceptional performance.

Facing efficiency challenges with its existing piston compressors, Cicli Adriatica sought a new compressed air solution. The replacement system needed to ensure a seamless production workflow, offering reliability, energy efficiency, and the ability to maintain consistent pressure without interruptions. With the support of ELGi’s Channel Partner Consulair, Cicli Adriatica selected the ELGi EN7V screw air compressor. Thanks to Consulair’s speed and professionalism, the unit was commissioned in 2022, and has since been successfully integrated into Cicli Adriatica’s production processes, including wheel assembly, frame setup, chain cutting, and bike packaging. To ensure uninterrupted production during maintenance of the main compressor, the company also installed a similar secondary backup unit.

“Quality is paramount in our manufacturing processes”, said Filippo Domenicucci, Managing Director at Cicli Adriatica. “We rely on compressed air for assembling bicycles using pneumatic tools and specialised machinery. It is crucial for Cicli Adriatica to utilise sustainable equipment that ensures energy efficiency and, in doing so, reduces running costs. With the support and technology from ELGi, we not only achieved a 30% reduction in energy costs compared to our previous system, but we were also able to reduce our carbon emissions and overall environmental impact.”

Niccolò Casini, Director of Product Management at ELGi, added: "ELGi offers customers a wide range of compressed air solutions that improve efficiency, reduce ownership costs, and are supported by expert technical service.

"The EN Series embodies our commitment to high-end, energy-efficient, compact compressors that offer superior reliability and low maintenance, making it ideal for businesses looking for a compressor that occupies a small footprint and requires low maintenance."

ELGi’s EN Series compressors are ideal for small and medium-scale manufacturing applications across diverse industries and are equipped with the company’s proprietary air ends featuring an energy-efficient η-V profile in a 4/5 lobe configuration. The EN Series is designed to operate in high ambient temperatures (up to 45°C), with key components capable of handling up to 50°C. Its advanced air-cooling system, with separate hot and cold zones, ensures a longer compressor lifespan. Additionally, EN Series screw air compressors are renowned for their low noise levels, which in turn allow for enhanced communication, concentration, and employee well-being in a quieter workplace
