Next generation of oil-free compressors

15 May, 2024

Atlas Copco has announced it has updated its popular ZT 15-22 oil-free tooth compressors to deliver high-quality air with a reduced carbon footprint and lower energy consumption.

Featuring Atlas Copco’s Variable Speed Drive (VSD) technology, this next generation of medium-pressure air compressors is said to ensure operations receive just the right amount of clean compressed air, improving operational efficiency and driving down costs.

The updated ZT 15-22 compressors offer a 5% improvement in flow and a 10% increase in efficiency over previous models. They are particularly suited to industries with demanding compressed air quality standards such as food and beverage, pharmaceutical and medical, automotive and battery production and chemical processing.

ZT 15-22 (VSD) compressors are ISO 8573-1 Class Zero certified, which can make them a great choice for any application that is sensitive to oil impurities. The oil-free tooth technology eliminates any possibility of oil contaminating the air supply and is the most efficient choice of dry compression technologies for this power range. There is also the option to integrate Atlas Copco ID or iMD dryers, which provide lower dew points with minimal electrical consumption.

The updated ZT15-22 also features several technical and design improvements aimed at further improving efficiency and increasing output. Examples include new components such as a breather system, element improvements, and a VSD cooling fan. Part of Atlas Copco’s range of Variable Speed Drive (VSD) compressors, the ZT15-22 automatically adjusts its motor speed to the air demand to make sure that your system gets the right amount of air while consuming the minimal amount of energy.

Space is always at a premium, so Atlas Copco says it has optimised the design of the updated ZT15-22 to make it even more compact. Its reduced footprint makes this oil-free compressor the ideal choice for next-to-application installations. The integrated dryer option further reduces the installation footprint by eliminating the need for external pipework and standalone dryers.

Atlas Copco says it has also improved the reliability of the next generation of ZT15-22 (VSD) compressors to reduce maintenance requirements. The new compressors incorporate components with extended service intervals, resulting in lower operational costs, less downtime, and a smaller carbon footprint throughout the compressor's lifecycle. In addition, the service interval for all consumables has been doubled, further reducing maintenance costs and improving uptime.

“We are constantly listening to our customers and use their feedback to continuously improve our compressed air products,” says Scott Harrison, Business Line Manager, Oil-free Air. “The upgrades to the ZT 15-22 (VSD) range address the need for guaranteed high-quality air that will improve operational efficiency while driving down costs. Our customers are also seeking to reduce their carbon footprint and become more sustainable, so we have made these new oil-free air compressors more energy efficient than ever, as well as ensuring they require fewer consumables over their lifetime.”
