Camozzi sponsors major wheelchair tennis fixture in memory of founder
Pneumatics equipment provider, Camozzi, has sponsored a major international wheelchair tennis event in memory of late founder Attilio Camozzi.
Attilio, who along with his brothers Luigi and Geromino began the company back in 1964, died last year at the age of 78. The Camozzi family felt that the memorial match would be a fitting tribute to a man who had done so much to support sport during the fifty years he spent helping establish the company as a major force in pneumatics and fluid power.
The four-day Camozzi Open 2016 event was staged in Brescia, close to Camozzi’s headquarters and attracted more than 50 entrants from around the globe. The men’s singles title was won by Polish player Tadeusz Kruszelnicki, while Italian player Giulia Capocci, was victorious in the Ladies Singles.
Camozzi has been a loyal supporter of wheelchair tennis for many years and has also been involved in motor sport, sponsoring the high profile, championship-winning McLaren Formula 1 team throughout the 1990s and more recently ex-Formula 1 driver Gianni Morbidelli in the international TCR Series.
NB: Over 100 players representing the International Tennis Federation’s Wheelchair Tennis division took part in the Paralympics in Rio this month, and the sport remains one of the most popular and watched Paralympic spectator sports.
