Updated motors with new feedback and connector options

01 December, 2015

The Kollmorgen AKMH range of stainless steel servo motors has been enhanced with a host of new feedback device options and new connector options.

Available in the UK from Inmoco of Daventry, these hygienic, CIP (clean-in-place) compatible motors are now claimed to offer more integration opportunities, enabling the most demanding hygienic applications to benefit from the same performance options as standard automation applications.

According to Inmoco, the inclusion of new resolver, comcoder (2048ppr), hyperface (SKx36 and SRx50) and EnDat 2.1(optical and inductive) feedback options provides compatibility with the widest possible range of drive systems. This, claims the company, enables precision positioning as well as simplifying set-up and tuning.

Enhanced connection options

The connection options have also been enhanced, while maintaining the stringent requirements for use in hygienic applications. New flying lead and connectorised versions are available, along with IP69K and IP67 vented cable-mounted connectors, and IP69K cable and tubing versions.

The original AKMH motors were available only with a single cable for both data and power. The updated motors now also offer two-cable versions, which allow them to be used with a wide range of servo drives without impacting on the rated data (torque, speed, current, etc) performance and maintaining the hygienic protection.

The AKMH has also been enhanced with the availability of an integrated brake. Even with the brake option, the IP69K protection is maintained.

Kollmorgen AKMH stainless steel servo motors are designed for quick and easy cleaning in place for reduced washdown times and therefore improved productivity. The smooth lines of the design means there are no rough areas, crevices or corners where dirt or debris could collect, making the motors suitable for use in the most hygienically sensitive of applications, including food and beverage, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and medical.

Compliance

The motors conform to the Machine Directive 2006/42/EC 3A hygiene standards, while lubricant and seals adhere to FDA standards. Being washdown-ready, there is no need to fit waterproof covers, even when using 100bar high pressure water.

The AKMH series covers 19 sizes of motors, from 74mm diameter up to 186mm diameter. The power range is 0.2kW to 5.5kW, continuous torque output ranges from 0.4Nm to 21Nm, and peak torque is up to 79Nm. Innovations in the design of the actual motor have produced superior efficiency, with torque derating less than 20 per cent. The motors are suitable for rotational shaft speeds up to 8000rpm.

The AKMH can be factory-fitted with a hygienic gearhead for a perfectly integrated hygienic gearmotor solution.
