New ISO11011 standard
BCAS has welcomed the official introduction of the ISO 11011 to help standardise energy audits offered by compressor manufacturers and equipment suppliers.
The main purpose of the ISO 11011 standard is to encourage end users to assess their compressed air systems – via companies that carry out energy audits in line with the new guidelines – and take the recommended actions to reduce their energy use.
ISO 11011 helps energy audits to be regularised, and all companies should now be offering similar advice and carrying out the same assessment and auditing procedures, making it easier for end users to decide on what action to take.
BCAS would strongly encourage end users to see the value in assessing their compressed air usage within a standardised framework. It’s likely that the vast majority of businesses don’t know how much compressed air they use, or how much it costs them. ISO 11011 should deliver sustainable results for the businesses that take it on board, saving energy and reducing carbon emissions.
At BCAS we believe it’s vital for industry to understand how much energy is used to produce compressed air, and how this can be improved. The society aims to raise awareness that could improve efficiency without the need to finance a new compressor.
