New inline contamination sensors provide early warning and cost-effective monitoring

02 January, 2025

MP Filtri has introduced its new ICS inline contamination sensors, designed and manufactured in the UK. These sensors offer a combination of precision, real-time performance, and cost-effectiveness, providing a practical solution for contamination monitoring. Designed to simplify the process of monitoring systems, the ICS sensors allow operators to detect particle build-up and take preventive measures before damage or downtime can occur

The ICS sensors are available in two configurations: one for industrial applications, with 4-20mA analogue communication and Modbus compatibility, and a mobile version featuring CANbus connectivity. Both versions allow continuous, real-time contamination monitoring and provide early warnings of particle accumulation.

Housed in a durable stainless-steel casing, the sensors are resistant to corrosion and compatible with a wide range of fluids. Their compact design allows for easy integration in space-constrained environments, and the inline mounting option ensures seamless installation. The sensors use MP Filtri’s LED light-extinction optical technology, providing reliable contamination measurement, calibrated to the ISO 4406 standard for accurate, three-channel particle counting. With a maximum pressure rating of 420 bar, they are suited for high-pressure systems, and they also offer the flexibility of automatic and remote-control operation.

When incorporated into a contamination control strategy, the ICS sensors help reduce service and maintenance costs, minimise downtime, and extend the lifespan of the monitored systems. By enabling reliable monitoring of contamination, they allow operators to maintain system performance and avoid costly repairs.

John Gardner, Managing Director at MP Filtri, commented: “The new ICS sensors herald a new era for businesses operating under tight cost controls. They combine real-time contamination monitoring with a proven early warning system at a price point significantly lower than traditional particle counters or analysers. These sensors enable operators to achieve reliable and repeatable contamination monitoring, even in systems where space and budgets are limited.”

The ICS sensors are manufactured at MP Filtri’s Contamination Monitoring Products division in Evesham, Worcestershire, using high-quality materials for durability and longevity. Utilising 316-grade stainless steel, the ICS is extremely resistant to corrosion and is compatible with an array of luid types.
