Emerson unveils new electric valve actuator for enhanced process control in challenging environments

Emerson has launched its Fisher easy-Drive 200R Electric Actuator, designed for use with Fisher butterfly and ball valves. This new actuator aims to provide accurate and reliable performance under the extreme conditions often encountered in heavy industries such as oil and gas, particularly in cold and remote locations. The combination of these actuator/valve assemblies is intended to increase operational uptime, enhance performance, and mitigate the risk of emissions typically associated with gas-operated systems.

Traditionally, many pneumatic valve actuators used in remote locations are powered by natural gas, leading to atmospheric emissions each time the valve is actuated. Electric actuators, such as the 200R, address this environmental concern by eliminating control-related emissions. The 200R is designed to overcome limitations found in existing electric actuator solutions, offering several key features:

Ease of installation and calibration: The 200R self-calibrates with a single click using the easy-Drive Configurator Software, which is included with the actuator at no additional cost.

Energy efficiency: The actuator operates on 11 to 30 VDC power and consumes less than 0.4 watts in holding position mode, making it suitable for use in locations without access to utility power.

Low-temperature operation: Capable of functioning in temperatures as low as - 40°C (-40°F), the actuator often eliminates the need for space heaters, except in the most extreme conditions. 

Power loss positioning: In the event of a power loss, the actuator can move to a user-defined position with the optional RPU-100 reserve power unit.

Remote monitoring and configuration: Real-time monitoring of various operational parameters, including position, movements, cycles, travel time, and power loss, is available via a Modbus RTU serial interface.

The 200R is part of Emerson’s easy Drive actuator range, which also includes options for both globe and rotary valves.
