Filtertechnik launches Lab version of Particle Pal Pro

15 June, 2020

Building on the success of the Particle Pal Pro portable particle counter and oil life indicator, Filtertechnik has launched a new Lab version of the counter. This new version is designed to work from oil samples as small as 100mL.

Filtertechnik comments that it has lowered the flow rate through its particle counter to under 20mL/min while maintaining accuracy and consistency of results. The company adds that re-positioning of the pump to Pull oil rather than Push has a dramatic effect when testing heavier more viscous oils. This new design allows oils in excess of 3000cst to be tested with no aeration issues. A higher speed flushing cycle has been included in the design.

Breakthrough digital imaging particle counting

According to Filtertechnik, its tablet-based oil analysis software maximises the available data from new digital imaging technology. The 10” touch screen display puts all the metrics users need at their fingertips. ISO codes are logged and trended. Results can be recalled on the screen and exported as PDFs or as CSV files. Images are also captured to aid reporting. Captured particles can be measured within the software.

The new particle-counting camera takes 4 frames-per-second images at very high resolution, recognising particles 2 microns and above. This technology also looks at the shape of the particles captured, which can help give an insight as to where the contamination originated from. The digital Imaging particle counter has the following key benefits:

 The size and quantity of particulates are calculated immediately and reported: 4, 6, 14, 21, 38, 70 and >100 micron counts.

 Air bubbles are counted and then eliminated from the ISO counts with warnings if the air bubble counts are too high and the ISO codes likely to be inaccurate.

 Shape recognition helps with root cause particle analysis. The Particle Pal Pro Lab measures and categorises cutting wear, sliding wear, fatigue wear, fibres, water droplets and air bubbles.

 Image capture facility enables particles to be measured on screen for analysis and reporting.

The software allows for spot values, averaging and zooming in to captured images. All results are held in asset folders so trend data can be identified over time and compared. Filtertechnik will build on the new Lab 100mL version and add water and oil life sensors.
