Stauff UK helps to develop a new pump control training rig at the NFPC

07 March, 2018

Stauff UK has again been asked by the National Fluid Power Centre (NFPC) to be involved in the development of a piece of the Centre’s training equipment.

The pump control training rig will replace the current equipment and allow the Centre to increase the number of candidates that can be trained at one time.

The course related to the kit offers practical experience in:

• Q-P testing pumps

• Hi/lo systems

• Setting a compensator

• Vent and remote control

• Load sensing

• Torque Limiters

• Electro-Hydraulic Propotional Control

Nick Gower, the NFPC’s resources manager, commented: “Including six pumps within the rig means we can simultaneously apply the theory required within the syllabus to several different pumps in various scenarios, and really offer a fully rounded experience for the candidates; more complex than we ever could have before.”

Excellent conditions

Stauff UK’s application engineers Dave Brown and Nigel Ingram were at the NFPC for a total of four days to ensure the pipework was installed, functioning and cleaned to the highest of standards. Brown commented: “Nigel and I have worked with the team at the Centre previously and above all else the conditions are excellent. “We are proud to have been able to be involved in this project.” Brown added, jokingly: “Perhaps the trainers should open the doors a little more often to bring the temperature down and throw some oil on the floor to give the candidates a little more real-life experience!”

Brown explained that the fluid power required will be delivered efficiently utilising a range of quality Stauff products – Stauff Form, Stauff Connect, Stauff Clamps, SAE Flanges, QRCs, test points, gauges and valves – and will offer years of service. “We’re looking forward to the other companies adding their products and seeing the finished kit in use,” he said.

John Savage, director of NFPC, was very pleased with the finished pipework. He commented: “We reached out to many companies from our Advisory Body to assist in this project, all of whom were happy to undertake one of the different elements to manufacture this fantastic piece of kit. Due to the schedule involved in bringing all the suppliers together, we will be commissioning this equipment for use on courses from March 2018 and long into the future.”
