Micro-Mesh plans to beat Brexit with £500,000 expansion

09 December, 2016

Nottingham-based manufacturer Micro-Mesh Filtration has embarked on an ambitious expansion plan that it says will keep it competitive in these uncertain times.

Started in 1968 Micro-Mesh designs, manufactures and supplies hydraulic, oil and air filters into a variety of industries including: mining, rail, chemical, automotive, off-road, oil & gas and energy.

New market opportunities

Managing director, James Underwood, said: “Since the Brexit vote in June we have seen many companies displaying a cautious attitude to growth, however we are seeing opportunities to open up and expand into new markets. This success has convinced us to push ahead with the planned factory expansion which should double our manufacturing floor space by the second quarter of 2017.”

Acquisition

In August 2016 Micro-Mesh had the opportunity to acquire air filter manufacturer Champion Laboratories based in Mansfield UK, and is currently in the process of installing and setting up the equipment with a view to being in full production by December. The company comments that this will open up opportunities in gas turbine and air pollution control filtration both in UK and overseas. This coupled with its business in India (Micro-Mesh Engineering India Pvt Ltd.) – which was set up in January 2015 and has been successful in the Indian coal mining sector – will see Micro-Mesh increase exports to over £2.5 Million in 2017.

Domestic sales increase

On top of this, the company is also seeing an increase in domestic sales due in part to the volatile exchange rate. Underwood continued: “Many of our competitors are based overseas and so have seen their costs rise, most of which is being passed on to the customer, manufacturing in Nottingham means we have complete control over our prices and so are less effected by currency fluctuations enabling us to offer long term fixed price contracts which in this day and age are greatly appreciated by our customers.”
