Derek Lane and Co moves to bigger site

13 October, 2016

Derek Lane & Co has moved to a larger and improved site a short distance from its previous premises. The new premises at Unit 9, International House, Heathfield Industrial Estate, Newton Abbot, Devon (just off the A38) comprises nearly 20,000ft² of workshop and warehouse space, trade counter facilities and sales offices.

Over the years, the company had been gradually outgrowing its premises, and following the move is now in a better position to service its customers’ engineering and repair requirements under cover as well as introducing an all-new showroom and ParkerStore facility housing more products.

Sales director Rob Woodley commented: “Our aim has always been to put the customer first, we cannot look backwards and must endeavour to move forward. The economic climate is uncertain of course and we should be cautious. To give a better quality service to our customers however we need to invest.”

Operations director Mark Venn added: “The main reason for the move was the lack of workshop space. Any trucks would have to be worked on outside, whatever the weather.”

Greater investment

Derek Lane retired in 2012 and the business was acquired by Woodley, Venn and Beaumanor Engineering in Leicester. Since this ownership change there has been a distinct focus on contemporising and improving the business through greater investment.

Woodley continued: “In the grand scheme of things we’re only moving a few miles up the road, and for our longstanding and valuable customers in Exeter we are still very much serving the local area. At the same time, we are also forging some new and long-term customers in the Newton Abbot and South Devon Area. We hope our new location will prove beneficial for our customer and staff for many more years to come.”
