Bobcat excavators increase power and reliability at Southgold

17 August, 2016

From internal demolition work to groundworks projects, new Bobcat compact excavators supplied by Authorised Dealer, Bobcat of London, are providing increased power and reliability for Southgold, the South London-based family-run construction company, specialising in both new build and conversion projects throughout the South East of England.

Damien Bradley, one of the directors at Southgold alongside his father and three brothers, said: “All the new Bobcat excavators from 1-6 tonne we have bought from Bobcat of London over the last two years have provided us with greatly increased power and robustness compared to the machines they have replaced. Our operators are very happy with the Bobcat machines and really impressed with the increased productivity they have provided.”

“Our first purchase was a Bobcat E10 1 tonne micro-excavator which blazed the trail for the other Bobcat excavators with its outstanding performance working with a Bobcat breaker on demolition work in a building refurbishment project of ours. We bought an E62 six-tonner next and have just taken delivery of new Bobcat E20 and E26 excavators, which we believe will be useful on similar internal demolition and clearance projects in the future.”

The E20 2 tonne model is a Zero Housing Swing (ZHS) excavator, which means that despite featuring a full-sized cab, it still enhances Zero Tail Swing (ZTS) functionality by further protecting the front upper structure corners turning within the swing circle. The ZHS configuration in the E20 excavator therefore provides 320 degrees of free rotation when working close to structures, without sacrificing on operator comfort or performance. The maximum digging depth of the E20 is 2385 mm, with a maximum reach at ground level of 4089 mm and a maximum dump height of 2566 mm.

Increased stability

Contributing to the high reliability of the E26 mini-excavator are the 4-plate box design for the workgroup, high-resistant DCPD covers and ‘quick lock’ hydraulic connections. The 4-plate box design reduces weight in the workgroup which, together with weight being added at the back of the excavator, has made it possible to move the centre of gravity towards the rear of the machine and increase stability. The maximum digging depth of the E26 model is 2582 mm, with a maximum reach at ground level of 4553 mm and a maximum dump height of 3057 mm.

Damien Bradley continued: “The operator working on the first job for the E26 is so impressed, he has asked me to order a bigger bucket because he wants to use the E26 to load spoil into lorries. The Bobcat excavators definitely dig way above their weight.”

“We have also found the service provided by David Sawicki and the rest of the team at Bobcat of London to be excellent, from the initial machine and attachment offer to the regularity and thoroughness of service visits and the very fast speed of response they always deliver for our machines in the field. This was another important aspect where our previous supplier was disappointing and we sometimes had to service machines ourselves as they took too long to get back to us.”

Founded in 1992, Croydon-based Southgold provides a full range of services from complete design and build on new build housing developments and mixed use commercial and residential schemes to site clearance, demolition, groundworks and refurbishment contracts.

As well as the comprehensive range of Bobcat compact excavators, Bobcat of London, based in West Thurrock in Essex, is the Authorised Dealer for sales and service of Bobcat compact loaders and telehandlers in London, Essex, Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex, Surrey, Hertfordshire and Middlesex. The company also offers for sale over 70 different types of Bobcat attachments that help to deliver versatility and time-saving efficiency across a huge range of applications.
