HP Hydraulics looking to bolster staff numbers
HP Hydraulics, afamily-run firm based in Fareham, reports that, despite difficult economic conditions, it has grown significantly over the past 12 months and is now looking to employ more staff to help service a number of new clients.
Nigel Howes, HP Hydraulics’ managing director, said: “The last year was tough, but we knew it was going to be from the start. So we planned ahead and that planning has paid off. We looked for new markets and concentrated on what we do best – service – and this won us the contracts.” He added that the company now requires new staff – including apprentices, fitters and turners – to cope with the increased demand.
HP Hydraulics, which has been operating in the South of England for over 30 years, manufactures and repairs hydraulic cylinders. Its large workshop includes a 5-ton overhead gantry crane, which is said to be able to cope with the largest of cylinders and removal of equipment from vehicles. The company is responsible for the servicing and repair of boat hoist equipment and dock gates for many of the south coast’s Marinas.
Key contracts
The business is run by husband and wife team Nigel and Denise Howes, together with their family. Denise runs the commercial side of the business, Nigel looks after the engineering and design offices, while the workshop is run by their son Kevin. The company, which employs over ten skilled hydraulic engineer and trades people, has a number of large key contracts with national and international shipping groups. Other contracts include BAE systems, Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary, as well as many local marine businesses. Nigel Howes also designed the hydraulics system for Seablades’ new fast deployment rigid inflatable boats (RIB).
