BCAS update December 2013
BCAS AGM success This year's BCAS Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place once again at Simpson's-in-the-Strand, London, on 28 November. 'Simpson's' is one of London's oldest traditional English restaurants and is part of the Savoy Buildings, which also contain one of the world's most famous hotels, the Savoy. The event was a sell-out, with a total of 136 society staff, members and guests in attendance. As usual, the gathering not only gave BCAS staff the chance to bring the assembled up to speed on recent initiatives and developments at the society, but also gave delegates the opportunity to network with industry colleagues and enjoy the type of quality lunch for which Simpsons is internationally renowned. BCAS executive director Chris Dee welcomed all the delegates to the event, and also introduced guest speaker Alfie Moore, the 'cop-turned-comedian' (he is currently on a career break from the police). Originally from Sheffield and now based in Scunthorpe, Alfie immediately launched into a barrage of anecdotal gags about his experiences being a policeman of the Humberside Constabulary. The delegates found his humour, fused with much insider knowledge from the force, both amusing and informative. Another highlight at the AGM was BCAS technical officer Greg Bordiak's announced that, rather than retire from his position, he would be remaining in his current role for up to another two years; news that was greeted warmly by BCAS members and staff alike. Greg was also presented with a gift to recognise his 25 years' service with the society.
