New Reelcare hose reel range ‘designed from the ground up’ (Oct 2013)
The 1600 Series large frame hose reels from Reelcare are based on a brand-new ‘from the ground up’ design, eliminating many of the flaws associated with previous design and construction techniques used within the industry.
Reelcare’s universal frame design is claimed to suit all applications where in the past either a sloped or box frame was required. The 1600 Series is also ultra-lightweight; during the design period if structural elements weren't 100 per cent necessary then they were not included. For example, all ties rods and excess materials were removed from the design, and rollers were engineered into the cross braces.
Reelcare comments that it believes ‘less is more’. They have therefore incorporated the bevel manual rewind into the chain guard of the 1600 Series, allowing multiple rather than fixed positioning, as was used before. The company uses a 3/8” rather than a standard ½” chain; this means a thinner sprocket can be used, which does not affect durability but reduces the weight of the chain and sprocket by up to 10 kg. Reelcare has also removed excess material from the frame. Reelcare’s tests have reportedly shown there is no difference in tensile strength compared with the previous design, yet it has saved valuable weight.
Reelcare can provide guards made from high-impact plastic. These meet safety requirements yet are said to be lighter than standard steel. Additionally, Reelcare has re-designed the drum so the reels no longer need tie rods. The company also incorporated the hose guide into the frame, saving valuable millimetres.
Standard reels using high-rise goosenecks can cause uneven hose wraps and waste valuable drum capacity. Reelcare’s 1600 Series low-profile goosenecks allow the maximum capacity of the drum to be used and keeps hose neat and tidy.
The universal frame also means motors, idlers and clutches can be fitted side-by-side and with various flange and drum sizes available, Reelcare says that it has a reel to fit most size restraints.
