BFPA update (April 2013)
BFPA supporting the British export drive
Once again the BFPA hosted the Fluid Power Pavilion at the Hannover Fair this month, which this year ran from the 8 to 12 April in Hall 21 Stand B11/4. With British companies such as Custom Fittings, Webtec Products, MAC-RK Engineering and FPE ably demonstrating that UK manufacturing is alive, it all made for an excellent show.
However, BFPA pavilions have never just been for the benefit of the exhibitors and a warm welcome awaited all visitors to the show stopping by to say "hello". Naturally BFPA/BFPDA members or customers of same received a marginally more effusive welcome than others.
During the week the BFPA distributed information about the activities of the Association; including the BFPA directory, which is still in high demand defying the ease of online information systems. The BFPA would like to thank all companies and individuals who visited and exhibited on the BFPA Fluid Power Pavilion at this year’s Hannover Fair. We trust the outing will prove to have generated good business.
Work progresses on BFPA Hose Cleanliness Guideline
The word ‘contamination’ can and should strike fear into the heart of fluid power engineers, and technicians, yet it is often not properly understood by the user market regardless of the many treatise written on the subject.
All fluid power installations are capable of giving efficient and trouble-free service for many years provided that some simple to achieve good practices are adhered to. Indeed there are installations well over 30 years old still giving superb daily performance. In fact this could form the basis of a new BFPA competition: where is the longest serving fluid power installation?
Last year, however, a group of experts was assembled under the watchful eye of BFPA Standards project manager, Yvonne Pearman, with Richard Walker of Manuli Hydraulics (UK) as Convenor with the brief to produce a new, up-to-date guideline on hose cleanliness, working title of which is ‘Recommendations and Best Practice for Hose Cleanliness’. Anticipated to be finished by the end of 2013 it will be an indispensable volume and well worth its shelf space to both the fluid power industry and the users.
More information will appear in this newsletter as time goes by but should you want to know a little more please contact the BFPA office.

All the above are extracts, with names removed, from some of the correspondence received by Stefanie in the BFPA office from both companies and people who have used the employment section of the BFPA website to great effect. Confidentiality and a professional service are the byword for this particular area of the BFPA’s work and it is available to members nationwide at a fraction of the usual charges made for such a service.
For those who have not used the site yet it is divided into two sections these being one part for employers looking for staff and the other for people seeking a change or indeed a first job in the industry. For people looking for a position we operate a ‘box’ number scheme with the BFPA acting as a go between the job seeker and potential employer.
This opportunity is working and growing well so have a look and should you want to know more give Stefanie a ring on 01608 647900.
