BCAS update (April 2012)
Air-Tech 2012 and BCAS Spring Conference
BCAS will have a new, purpose-built stand (Stand A228) to welcome members and non-members to discuss all aspects on compressed air systems, best practice, standards and legislation. There will be a compressed air leak challenge for you to try out various techniques to identify the number of air leaks in the system.
BCAS will again be providing expert and impartial advice on any aspect of compressed air systems and will be promoting the Society’s three key campaigns for the show; the new ISO11011 standard for compressed air system assessments, the importance of genuine manufacturer spare parts and the BCAS AirSAFEregister, the customer rating and review system of BCAS members.
The BCAS 2012 Spring Conference is being held from 9am to 12:30 on the opening day of Air-Tech 2012, Tuesday 17 April at the NEC Birmingham. Entry to the conference is free for all BCAS members and follows the successful model of previous events.
The conference starts with a networking breakfast on arrival at 9:00am before the first of 5 key speakers takes to the stage and finishes with lunch at 12:30 leaving you time to visit the Air-Tech exhibition and also call in on the BCAS stand to meet the staff afterwards.
BCAS always reserves a number of places for non-members to attend – delegate fee is only £75 +VAT per person and this fee is refunded if, after the conference, your company applies and is accepted into membership. Already confirmed speakers include:

· James Maziak, Maziak compressors, future of distribution.
· Greg Bordiak, BCAS, legislative update.

Food Grade Compressed Air Code of Practice revision
The first of a series of meetings to review the current Code of Practice was held at the BCAS offices on 6 March with more than a dozen members from equipment manufacturers, instrumentation manufacturers and distributors attending.
The meeting was informed that the Annex to CAC/RCP 1-1969 (Rev. 4 - 2003) being the original source of that process is itself not linked to any legal system but is generated by a worldwide body. One of the issues raised in discussions about the reference to HACCP in the BCAS CoP is that there is no actual linking information with the HACCP process and compressed air, although the Scope suggests that the COP will provide some information.
This document should provide sufficient information for the draft to be suitably updated with any relevant reference and the meeting used this as the source material for the discussions on 6 March and will do for future meetings.
