Highly efficient oil-free compressed air from Boge (Oct 2011)

22 November, 2011

Boge has launched its second-generation SO series oil free screw compressors. The company claims that the second generation models set new standards in the 110 to 255 kW performance class; boasting higher efficiency, reduced sound pressure levels and a new service friendly layout.

Boge oil free screw compressors have long been used in critical applications such pharmaceuticals, food and semiconductor industries or wherever oil free compressed air generation is prerequisite. Ongoing product development has now led to the launch of the second generation air or water cooled SO series oil free screw compressors. According to Boge, the cooling air flow of the SO -2 models has been substantially optimised. Intake air is drawn from the coolest area to help increase the free air delivery, and the minimisation of internal pressure losses has led to greater efficiency. Both improvements are said to help to improve specific power consumption.

The SO -2 models are now equipped with a combined sound and pulsation absorber. An intelligent design and the use of powerful absorbing materials means the entire range operates with significantly improved sound pressure levels making the new SO series quieter in operation than before.

A further technical improvement is the addition of a condensate separator in the intercooler between the first and second stage air ends. Boge reports that this improved separation means absolutely safe operation for the second stage in applications where there are low ambient temperatures or in situations where there is high humidity.

Improved access to the more intensive maintenance components has also been an important part of the SO enhancement; for example the oil cooler has been relocated from under the airend and is now located in the area beneath the intercooler and after-cooler.

Boge concludes by commenting that its SO -2 series has been re-engineered to produce oil free compressed air at the highest level of efficiency and safety, and the 8 models and 16 variations ensure there is a version to meet all requirements; from 110 to 355 kW.
