Caterpillar hosts the 2011 BFPA Economic Seminar (Oct 2011)
The Caterpillar factory near Desford provided a fitting venue for the recent BFPA Economic Seminar on 5th October, where over 45 guests from the industry were shown the latest figures produced by Keith Edmonds of Oxford Economics. OE has produced the Annual BFPA forecast for many years and, as such, has built up an industry model which is certainly unique for the hydraulic and pneumatic industry.
Over the years this has proved to be a valuable and accurate resource. Not only did the day feature the economic forecast but speakers were also invited from the rail, nuclear and construction industry, each of which are large users of fluid power and, of course, are strong and important parts of the British industrial scene on which we all depend. Michael Roberts of ATOC, David Phillips of Off- Highway Research and Keith Parker of the NIA each gave a fascinating insight into the current and future investment plans for their respective industries. The individual presentations were then rounded off with a panel Q & A giving a good opportunity for the visitors to ask specific questions relating to their own particular interests. It is worth noting that in general only those companies which contribute to the BFPA Statistical reports throughout the year, are able to receive the results, but some of the historical BFPA data is used by OE to prepare the forecast. Should you wish to take a look at the style of reports produced please contact Sarah Gardner at the BFPA offices on 01608 647900 or e-mail sarah@bfpa.co.uk
