CompAir tree planting campaign set to cut tonnes of energy emissions

07 June, 2022

CompAir has launched a new environmental campaign which commits to planting one tree for every CompAir or Hydrovane variable-speed compressor sold in the UK.

The campaign aims to plant hundreds of trees before the end of the year, across a variety of regions in the UK – one for each energy-efficient compressor purchased. Based on the energy and carbon savings from its L75RS CompAir compressor for example, this will see a reduction of 112 tonnes of CO2 per machine, the equivalent emissions of 24 cars being taken off the road for one year.

CompAir is partnering with Carbon Footprint, an environmental organisation committed to tracking and reducing carbon emissions at source, as well as supporting numerous carbon offsetting projects. Carbon Footprint will help the company to source suitable locations, as well as assisting with the tree planting activities, during the October to March planting window.

In addition, the company will be supporting a biodiversity reserve project in Rimba Raya in Borneo, Indonesia, with the aim of offsetting 200 tCO2e of its own emissions from its operations. The project seeks to reverse the effects of deforestation in the region, helping to protect endangered species, contribute to the local economy and provide access to clean water and health services.

Reducing environmental impact

Colin Mander, strategic business line director at the company explains the reasons for the campaign and how customers can get involved: “The recent COP 26 summit, coupled with rising energy bills is driving more and more businesses to consider their electricity consumption, alongside their impact on the environment. Compressed air generation is said to account for as much as 10% of all the electricity consumed by industry, so we wanted to incentivise our customers to lower their energy bills and their carbon footprint, by investing in the latest energy-efficient compressed air technology.

“Unlike traditional, fixed-speed compressors, which run at a constant speed, our latest range of variable-speed drive compressors can be optimised to handle the varying plant demand found in most plant air systems. Premium air ends deliver high reliability and, an automatic motor lubrication system provides maximum protection. Maintenance costs are also lowered, thanks to excellent accessibility to all major components.

“Our popular L75RS CompAir compressor has also been optimised recently to provide higher air delivery, a new, compact footprint of only 2.23m2 and a lower noise level. The new machine offers efficiency improvements of up to 6.8%over previous models, and a higher flow rate up to 6% from the brand new airends, delivering significantly lower lifetime costs.

“Getting involved couldn’t be easier. For every customer that purchases a new variable-speed compressor from our CompAir or Hydrovane ranges, we will plant a tree as a thank you for helping to contribute to lower carbon emissions. Customers can simply speak to their local CompAir or Hydrovane distributor, to arrange a free energy audit, to help ascertain the energy savings that they could make by switching to a variable-speed machine.”
