Air fuse adds safety for air tool users (Mar 09)

20 May, 2009

Anyone operating compressed air tools, in construction or plant hire industries, can now enjoy added working safety due to the introduction of a range of air fuses from Parker Hannifin available over the counter from Thorite sales & service centres. The air fuses are designed to protect operators of pneumatic equipment from the hazards associated with a broken compressed air hose; enabling plant managers to comply with increasingly stringent guidelines on the safe use of pneumatic equipment from industry associations such as ISO.
The air fuse is said to ensure that the main air flow is immediately shut off if the volume of air exceeds a set value; this value is factory preset to allow normal air consumption when using air tools. If the air consumption exceeds the preset value, for instance in the event of the air line being severed, an internal piston instantly shuts off the main flow. An integral bleed hole allows some air to flow though, enabling the line pressure to automatically reset the air fuse once the line break is repaired.
The air fuses are compatible with a wide range of hose, tube or pipe sizes from 1/4in to 2in, with a maximum inlet pressure of up to 35 bar and the components are high-visibility yellow, in compliance with health and safety standards.
