The Link from RCC – Connecting companies to their assets
The Link from Reynolds Contamination Control (RCC) is a Cloud-based software package that is designed to connect companies to their assets, providing a scalable solution at an affordable price.
When businesses are looking for ways to engage with technology connected to the Industry 4.0 concept the main quandary can be where to start. Particularly for some SMEs, the challenge when sourcing connectivity technology can be to secure value within a short timeframe. Therefore, one key focus for prospective users can be to start small, prove ROI and scale up by adopting a more boutique or niche approach to providing effective solutions quickly at a reasonable price point.
Andy Gailey, founding director of Uptime Consultant Ltd based in Coventry, UK, said: “Talking to Wayne Hubball, the technical director of RCC, it became apparent to me that the RCC testbed demonstration he operates on an oil filtration platform could easily fit many other applications; really anything with 4-20mA ubiquitous output could also be in the frame.”
Companies may be interested in a solution able to monitor temperature, pressure, flow and oil quality (PPM), like the RCC demonstration unit cited by Gailey, or they may want to target more ‘mechanical’ outputs including vibration, torque and power applicable in the majority of production systems. The units can start from 6-8 inputs that could scale up to hundreds of points of interest tracked in real time, either locally or via the Cloud with an application on IoS or Android devices.
The dashboard is intuitive with a display design that Gailey believes makes it not only easier on the eye but also to understand. “I think that digital displays can sometimes be misread compared with a dial display and these also prove better viewing with the HMI screen from a distance, say if you have to view across an asset,” he said.
All the RCC hardware is manufactured and tested prior to installation at the company’s UK facility.
