Brammer awards ceremony flies high

01 November, 2013

The Concorde Runway Visitor Park in Manchester was the venue for Brammer’s recently held annual event and awards ceremony attended by some 150 senior executives from all sectors of British industry.

Brammer, the UK distributor of industrial maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) products and services, and Buck & Hickman, the UK distributor of tools, maintenance and health and safety products, showcased examples of best practice, innovation and continuous improvement in maintenance spares procurement and management at their 2013 Manufacturing Forum and Awards.

The event, now in its seventh year, was hosted by Sasha Twining, a news anchor who has presented high-profile daytime shows for both Sky News and the BBC.

The keynote address was given by Will Butler-Adams, MD of Brompton Bicycle Co, which designs and produces more than 30,000 folding bikes each year from its UK factory. He spoke to delegates about the success of the company and the need for manufacturing businesses to ensure they adhere to best practice to remain competitive in continued challenging economic times.

Other presentations were given by representatives from companies including the Royal Mint, Siemens, Diageo and EDF, who shared their own experiences and successes in the areas of vendor consolidation and best practice in supply chain management, and how their work in partnership with Brammer and Buck & Hickman is delivering measurable commercial benefits.

The winners of the awards categories, judged by senior representatives from Brammer and Buck & Hickman in association with leading trade media editors, including Ed Holden of Hydraulics & Pneumatics and Aaron Blutstein of Plant & Works Engineering, were as follows:

·         Brammer – Improved Production Efficiency: Pepsico.
·         Brammer – Reduced Working Capital through Inventory Management: Royal Mint (Highly commended: Ball Packaging).
·         Brammer – Reduced Total Acquisition Costs: Lynemouth Power.
·         Buck & Hickman – Improved Production Efficiency: Royal Mail.
·         Buck & Hickman – Reduced Total Acquistion Costs: Npower (Highly commended: Rolls Royce and Siemens).
·         Buck & Hickman – Supplier Relationship Award: Siemens (Highly commended: Tata Steel).

Ian Ritchie, managing director of Brammer UK and Buck & Hickman, said: “It was a great privilege to stage this year’s Manufacturing Forum and Awards for the seventh consecutive year. As always, it was attended by representatives from the UK’s leading manufacturers who took the opportunity to share best practice with their industry peers. Our speakers all gave thought-provoking presentations which stimulated great interest and debate among the delegates.”

Ritchie  continued: “The Awards recognise those who have achieved outstanding results and it is wonderful to see so many companies of all sizes and in a broad range of sectors continuing to demonstrate best practice. The judging process was, as always, very tough, with entries of a very high standard, leading us to create for the first time a ‘highly commended’ award. Our congratulations go to all the winners and highly commended entries.”
