Environmentally friendly hydraulic power pack

15 June, 2018

Daikin’s new Ecorich EHU 40 series powerpack units utilise a high efficiency, variable speed electric motor that reacts upon demand to ensure the issue of wasted energy is eliminated. Daikin comments that the units take advantage of the motor technology developed in the company’s air conditioning systems to reduce energy consumption by up to 80% over a conventional hydraulic power pack unit.

With the use of a rare-earth permanent magnet embedded in the rotor, the IPM (interior permanent magnet) motor uses an electromagnetic structure that maximises magnetic torque (attractive and repulsive force between the coil and the permanent magnet) and reluctance torque (force of the coil that attracts iron).

This structure archives high torque and maximum efficiency while suppressing heat generation. By combining two rotational forces, ‘magnetic torque’ generated by a powerful neodymium magnet and ‘reluctance torque’ Daikin reports that it is able to generate more power while using less electricity.

 Winning formula

With a combination of significant energy savings, improved oil temperature management, reduced footprint, weight savings and a fully CE standard compliant system, Daikin believes it has a winning formula on their hands.

The current EHU units are available with a flow range of 14, 25 and 28 litres per minute with a maximum operating pressure of 70 bar.

Typically, the EHU power pack units are used in many of the major manufacturers’ (Doosan, Mazak and Mori Seiki) CNC machine tools providing hydraulic power for the chuck, clutch and occasionally used to operate the steady arms.
