Engineering firm welcomes Laurence Robertson MP

11 June, 2012

UK fluid and hydraulic equipment specialist, Group HES, welcomed Laurence Robertson, Conservative MP for Tewkesbury, to its headquarters on Innsworth Technology Park, Gloucester, during a recent tour of local industry. Local industry figurehead and co-founder of Innsworth Technology Park, George Dowty, hosted Laurence Robertson MP during his visit. The visit took place during the Group HES Apprentice Open-House.

Launched last year by Gloucester MP, Richard Graham, the recruitment drive takes place over two days with the candidates, advanced level apprentices, receiving a ‘talk and tour’ of the Group HES HQ, a presentation from managing director, Stuart Diesel, an open forum with key members of staff and a representative from Gloucester Training Group, plus the opportunity to speak with the company’s current apprentices.
During the tour, the MP also met with Shaun Clifford, the Group HES apprentice team leader. Starting work in the warehouse, seven years ago, Shaun accepted a place on the Group HES apprentice programme, and is now nearing completion of his four-year course. With his first-hand experience and knowledge of both the company and the apprentice scheme, Clifford was selected to become team leader for both new and existing Group HES apprentices in 2012, including last year’s successful candidates, 19-year-old Daniel Bland and 16-year-old Matthew Oldham; both are working towards a NVQ level 3.
Commenting on his visit to Group HES, Laurence Robertson MP said: “I was very pleased to be able to visit Group HES, I was also very impressed that the company is engaging apprentices and clearly sees the value in doing so. Manufacturing and engineering is still very important to this country and I'm pleased to have such a company in my constituency.”
