Survey reveals potential dangers of using non-BCAS members

13 April, 2017

Not using a BCAS member for supply and service could leave you non-compliant with health & safety and environmental standards, a recent survey of compressed air users has revealed.

More than 100 compressed air users were asked to rate their suppliers across a number of factors. When asked about their satisfaction about advice relating to legal compliance for health & safety and environmental issues, 38% of those not using a BCAS member scored their supplier 5 or less out of 10 and 17 per cent scored them either 0 or 1.

For the same question BCAS members scored an average score of 8.97 out of 10 compared with the non-BCAS supplier scoring an average of just 7.38.

The survey has shown that BCAS members not only consistently score better satisfaction ratings than non BCAS suppliers across a wide range of factors, but also that there are high levels of dissatisfaction if you use non-members.

Vanda Jones, executive director of BCAS, said: “We have always advocated that using a BCAS member for supply and service of equipment for such an essential commodity as compressed air is vital. This survey has supported our view that your equipment is in better hands if you use a BCAS member.

“Being a BCAS member means that you sign up to a strict code of practice. Our members are also fully updated on the latest legislation and standards as they happen and have full access to our technical help and advice. As responsible companies, they also train their staff regularly, often accessing our full suite of training courses. It is really good to see that end users value this service and credit our members with keeping them legally compliant.”

The survey also revealed that it actually pays to use a BCAS member rather than a non-member for supply and service. When asked about value for money, BCAS members achieved an average satisfaction score of 9.11 out of 10 compared with a score of just 7.46 for non-members.

This magazine will feature the full results from this survey in the next issue.
