Hillhead 2012 ready to make the earth move
Hillhead 2012, the UK's major construction event, takes place at Hillhead quarry, near Buxton, from 19 to 21 June. A number of big-name suppliers of excavators, loading shovels and other types of heavy construction equipment will be at the event. The Korean duo Doosan and Hyundai will be returning to the show after an absence in 2010, while Case, long-standing supporter of Hillhead, will be back in its usual spot at the quarry face end of the site with associates New Holland at the other end of the block.
Industry Information Village expands in 2012
Hillhead 2010 saw the creation of the first Industry Information Village when the main organisations which both serve and support the industry – IQ, MPA, BAA, HSE, MPQC, University of Derby, IAT, Concrete Society and Proskills – were all grouped together in the centre of the main pavilion. For 2012, this concept is being further developed when the 'village' will be expanded to embrace a range of other information providers including training organisations, consultants and industry-related 'not for profit' bodies. Once again, this feature area will be identifiable by its own special green and beige colour scheme and details of participating organisations will be posted on the web site in due course.
Site expansion
Regular visitors to Hillhead will notice a difference on arrival at the entrance to the show this year; the familiar concrete block plant operated by Forticrete since the early 1980s has disappeared. The plant was closed as a result of falling demand for building materials caused by the recession which started in 2008. The plant was recently demolished and the site area cleared. Accordingly, site owner Tarmac has given permission for area to be used for show purposes and, although the existing layout will be retained, some extra plots will be available for exhibitors adjacent to the Registration Pavilion.
Exhibitor taster
In the outside exhibition area at Hillhead 2012, Atlas Copco Construction & Mining will be exhibiting a range of high performance, versatile and cost effective products that have been developed specifically for operators in the international quarrying and recycling sector. Visitors to the stand will also have the opportunity to ‘try out’ Atlas Copco’s hydraulic attachments using the company’s specifically designed simulator.
Products on show include the FlexiROC D60, a multitask drill rig which is perfectly suited for large-scale production and pre-split applications in surface mining and large-scale quarry operations. For the first time in the UK, Atlas Copco will also be exhibiting its new BP3050 Bulk Pulverizer.
Eriks will showcase a range of powerful tools designed to improve plant efficiency and reliability. These include a demo version of the new motor calculator, which is claimed to enable engineers to make the best possible decision when repairing or replacing a motor. The Eriks motor calculator is said to be an extremely effective online tool that uses customer specific information such as motor running costs, along with other data including current replacement costs, to estimate the best of three options when faced with a motor breakdown: repair the motor, replace with a standard motor or replace with an energy efficient motor.
Eriks condition monitoring solutions will be also be showcased at Hillhead 2012; including live demonstrations of a new cloud-hosted condition monitoring solution for fast and effective predictive maintenance.
