Pennine Pneumatic Services celebrates 25th anniversary

Managing director, Gary Whitaker, who founded the company from the ashes of compressed air company Pennine SCS, gave a speech to the PPS team about the history of the company, thanking the key members of staff who have been in it for the long haul, including Maxine Stead, who was presented with a bunch of flowers.

He ended the speech by saying: “From where I sit PPS people are special people. We succeed together, we fail together. We have no numbers, no airs and graces. We are one great team, there is nobody to touch us. There are exciting times ahead for the PPS/Simm Group. Here’s to the next 25 years.”

Former director and founding member, Roger Woodm returned for the celebrations, as did a past employee from the early years, Margaret Bergan. Family members were also invited in for the occasion. A quiz was held to test staff knowledge of the company; this was won by sales Manager Peter Odell.

PPS was established in 1991, in the same year that Yorkshire-born Helen Sharman became the first Briton in space, Dances With Wolves won the Oscar for Best Picture, Bryan Adams topped the charts with (Everything I Do) I Do It for You and Ed Sheeran was born.

Since 1991, the company has grown from five members of staff to 52, won the Atlas Copco Distributor of the Year Award three times (1994, 2013 and 2015), purchased Sheffield-based company Simm Engineering in 2015 and won the Employer of the Year Award at the 2015 Halifax Courier Business Awards.

As well as supplying the latest energy-efficient Atlas Copco variable speed drive (VSD) air compressors and vacuum pumps, PPS offers nitrogen generation, the design and installation of pipework, emergency repairs and service contracts. It also runs a sales counter at its headquarters on Pellon New Road in Halifax.
