Pirtek achieves Defence Standard

01 April, 2016

Fluid transfer solutions provider Pirtek reports that it has become the first hydraulics company to receive approval under the Defence Standard 47/32 issue 02, allowing a specific range of the company’s hoses and assemblies to be used on board HM ships and submarines.

Following a series of trials and intensive product tests carried out in conjunction with the Pirtek UK technical team and Pirtek Portsmouth, the company has received Defence Standard 47/32 issue 02 certification. This certification means that Pirtek’s 4SP EN 856 4SP, 4SP EN 856 R12, and 4SH EN 856 4SH hose assemblies with approved couplings have met the MOD’s stringent standards and can be used on board Her Majesty’s ships and submarines.

Alistair Wiggins, managing director of Pirtek UK (South), commented: “For obvious reasons, the Ministry of Defence works to the most demanding standards and to have our products certified for use on ships and submarines that could find themselves in a combat situation is a testament to the quality of the Pirtek product range and how we operate. It is also a tribute to the team at Pirtek Portsmouth who have worked tirelessly with the MOD and the Maritime Platform Systems Design Authority to achieve this notable accreditation.”

Strong maritime connections

Pirtek Portsmouth’s Stuart Johnson is equally delighted with this unique accreditation. “Being based in Portsmouth means that we have strong maritime connections and our products are already used on ships and boats of all kinds. But to achieve this certification from the Ministry of Defence is a great achievement. It is a seal of approval from one of our most exacting customers and we are delighted to be able to assist Her Majesty’s ships and submarines in this way.”
