Call for change
She added: “There is a clear need for the European Union to work in a more integrated way, with better communication and collaboration between commissioners, directorates general and Member States. This will help ensure there isn’t excessive or duplicate policy development to hamper business. It is vital that new policies and regulations are analysed for the benefit to companies and that provisions are put in place to ensure these regulations do not deter or impede SMEs and start-ups.”
The ‘In/Out’ debate is set to continue in earnest over the coming months, and if the Stay in the Union mind-set within critical business and professional communities such as engineering is to remain bullish it would be greatly advantageous if the EU powers that be were to take on board the type of valuable ‘at the coalface’-type feedback provided above. Real concerns regarding the opportunities for new and growing businesses, clearer and more effective channels for constructive dialogue and less red tape need to be considered carefully in order for the whole of the EU, not just the UK, to move forward in a more profitable, productive, cohesive and amicable fashion. Brussels, are you listening?
