Experience is key
Quality marks and accreditations are a necessary by-product in a sector which requires such high performing and durable equipment.
V&A operates an ISO 9001 certified quality management system for pipework installation, hydraulic system upgrades and maintenance. Such is the standard of engineering in the niche maritime sector, it is our belief that if you’ve dealt with pipework installation and repair on a ship, then anything in a factory environment or the construction industry is far easier.
The maritime sector also brings a heightened need to communicate effectively with other engineers on the project to ensure everyone reacts correctly to what has been agreed. It’s easy to talk a good job, but you also need to show you can do it. Having spent more than 40 years working in the niche marine hydraulics industry we know the jargon. That’s so important so there are no misunderstandings. For example, the Royal Navy has an entire language of its own.
Apprenticeship scheme
V&A has embarked on an in-house apprenticeship scheme to ensure our new recruits gain both technical skill and precious intellectual knowledge, which is nowadays becoming harder and harder to find.
