Inspection kit detects hydraulic fluid injection injuries

29 April, 2015

Alerton International has introduced the SafetyBlu SB-450 Blue Light Inspection Kit, featuring a portable, high-intensity blue light (450 nm) LED flashlight. Used in conjunction with the company’s revolutionary FluidSafe fluorescent additive, the SB-450 kit locates hydraulic fluid leaks early on. This can help prevent injection injuries to mine workers, and can also reduce fluid consumption by 5 to 7 per cent annually.

High-intensity blue light

When added to the reservoirs of hydraulic machinery, FluidSafe aids in the detection and surgical removal of hydraulic fluid in the event of an accidental fluid injection that penetrates the skin. When viewed under the SafetyBlu lamp’s high-intensity blue light, the additive’s bright green fluorescent glow pinpoints the injection track quickly and accurately. This makes it easy for medical personnel to confirm whether a penetration actually occurred, and if so, to precisely determine the extent of the injury.

The SafetyBlu flashlight is also very effective in detecting fluid leaks in hydraulic system hoses, fittings, seals and other components. This allows small leaks to be repaired before they lead to catastrophic failures. It also lowers operating costs by reducing the loss of hydraulic fluid.

Robust

The lamp features a rugged, anodised aluminum body, which reduces corrosion and is said to be able to stand up to years of heavy use. Powered by a rechargeable NiMH battery, it provides 90 minutes of continuous inspection between charges. The LED is rated at a 100,000-hour service life.

In addition to the SafetyBlu flashlight, the SB-450 kit comes complete with smart AC and DC chargers, yellow fluorescence-enhancing glasses and a belt holster. All components are packed in a padded carrying case.
