Brian Rymer, managing director at I.M.M. Hydraulics (UK), retires

02 April, 2015

At the age of 67 and over 50 years within the Hydraulics Industry, Brian Rymer retired from full time employment as the managing director of I.M.M. Hydraulics (UK) Ltd. at the end of January 2015. Work began for Brian in the industry in 1965 when at the age of 17 he joined Oswald Hydraulics Ltd., a company based in the West Midlands, where he began his apprenticeship in hose assembly manufacturing, and was eventually promoted to works manager.

Further experience was later obtained by joining Varney Hydraulics Ltd., which was the hydraulics division owned by the Stauff Group, before setting up his own company in the UK in October 1994, as a partnership between Gilberto Candeloro the CEO of I.M.M. Hydraulics Spa (Italy). Brian has taken I.M.M. Hydraulics (UK) Ltd. now in its 21st year, from a company that initially started with four staff, a very small customer base, and limited funds, to a company that now employs over 50 people, and a sales turnover in excess of £10.7 million.

Product quality, price, and service, have been a major factor in the key to I.M.M. Hydraulics (UK) Ltd success, and most importantly the loyalty given by customers since the company’s inception. Part of Brian Rymer ethos has always been to consistently provide his customers with a high level of service and flexibility, regardless of the customers spend, whilst at the same time investing any profits back into the business, to ensure that the future of I.M.M. will continue to develop even after his retirement.

Keeping in touch

Relationships however remain the backbone of the business, and over the years Brian with his extensive awareness of the market place and exceptional product knowledge, has made a lot of good friends within the industry, and he hopes to keep in touch with all those people who have made his career an enjoyable experience. More recently Brian has worked for the I.M.M. Group in a commercial role, helping to develop all aspects of the business on an international basis.

Brian is looking forward to spending his retirement, travelling, gardening, and learning to play Golf at a more respectable level. With Brian retiring it will be Dave Pearce who takes on the responsibility of general manger for the UK, with Paul Farnell, head of commercial activities as national sales manager; Kim Pearce, company secretary; Andy Dickens, technical & training manager; and John Murphy, area sales manager.
