Atlas Copco launches new VSD compressors from 15 to 30 kW (Jan/Feb 2013)

31 January, 2013

Atlas Copco Compressors has expanded its AQ oil-free, water-injected screw compressor range with the introduction of new models from 15 to 30 kW that incorporate energy efficient Variable Speed Drive (VSD) technology. The new Class 0 certified AQ 15-30 VSD range consists of four different models, including air as well as water-cooled variants, and can offer substantial energy savings and high operational efficiency for oil-free applications.

With the introduction of the new AQ 15-30 kW VSD compressors, Atlas Copco has extended its water-injected screw compressor range which is now available from 15 to 55 kW. The new compressors bring reliable, ISO 8573-1 Class 0 certified, oil-free air to the most sensitive applications below 30 kW, including medical, pharmaceutical production, food processing, electronics and >8bar pressure applications.
Due to its integrated air treatment, the AQ 15-30 VSD range is not only 100 per cent oil-free but also ensures optimum efficiency, reliability and air quality. For instance the use of VSD technology means that compressor output is matched to air demand, leading to energy savings of 35 per cent on average. Next to this, the AQ 15-30 range offers noise levels as low as 67 dB(A), meaning that it can effortlessly fit into any work floor.
The AQ 15-30 VSD range also includes features that can improve overall operating efficiency. For instance, as the element bearings are water-lubricated and slide on the water, their lifetime is extended and smooth rotation of the element is safeguarded. With the Full Feature concept, the need for an external dryer, piping systems, multiple connections, air leaks and associated pressure drops can also be avoided.
The AQ also allows for easy maintenance thanks to its compact, ergonomic design. With the Elektronikon controller and the advanced connectivity through AirConnect, the compressor’s performance can be monitored remotely.
