BCAS update (June 2012)

11 June, 2012

BCAS Spring Conference and Air-Tech 2012

The BCAS 2012 Spring Conference was one of the best held to date and attracted more than 80 delegates to the NEC to listen to the range of expert speakers and share views and opinions before moving on to the Air-Tech exhibition and visiting the spacious BCAS stand.
It proved to be a case of standing room only as BCAS members heard presentations on a range of topics covering Compressed Air Legislation, Standards, Accredited Supplier Scheme, Marketing opportunities and the plans for the new BCAS Distributor Sector activities presented by new BCAS board member James Maziak.
After the Spring Conference, many members took the opportunity to meet with others on the custom built BCAS stand in Hall 3A at Air-Tech and enjoy the hospitality on offer. The BCAS stand remained extremely busy during the three days of Air-Tech; with visits from BCAS members, prospective members and many users of compressed air looking for expert and impartial advice, such as the new range of BCAS Fact Sheets that were launched at Air-Tech.

2012 Ball tickets selling fast
Arrangements for the 2012 BCAS Ball, being held at the Savoy Hotel on Saturday 24 November, are well underway and many members have already reserved their tickets for this prestigious event that is held every two years. There are only 36 tickets left so if you have not yet reserved yours please contact the BCAS office before it is too late.
The theme for this year’s Ball is Las Vegas and the evening with start with a cocktail reception and welcome from a Marilyn Monroe impersonator in the River Room before moving through to the impressive Lancaster Ballroom for a five course dinner (with wine included) and entertainment from the Rat Pack – performers taking the role of stars Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Junior and Dean Martin – plus the Dark Blues Dance Band and mind reader, Graham Jolley. Jolley is a TV celebrity having appeared with Penn and Teller, Jonathan Ross, Terry Wogan and many others. BCAS is once again proud to be supporting the Children’s Charity SPARKS and all monies raised at the Ball are presented to them. Tickets cost just £198 +VAT each and include the Champagne Reception, a 5 course dinner especially created for the Ball with wine included. To raise the profile of your company at this prestigious event, there are a number of sponsorship opportunities available. If you cannot make the event but would still like an opportunity for your company to be listed as an event supporter and help raise funds for the SPARKS charity, you can do this for just £200. Annual golf meeting
This popular event was once again held at Hawkstone Park Golf Club starting Sunday 13 May 2012. There were two rounds on the Hawkstone Course and one round on the Championship course.
The BCAS Annual Golf meeting remains a well-attended event in the Member’s social calendar and provides current members, honorary members and former members the ideal opportunity to meet once a year and catch up on the years activities.
The members presented John Broom Smith (who recently celebrated his 80th birthday) with a silver salver in recognition of the many years he has organised this successful event. Details of all winners and awards, along with photographs, will be posted on the BCAS website shortly.

Do you know which Standards your customers should be using?
If you want to check up on what Standards you and your customers should be using for compressed air, go to the BSI website and type compressed air in the search box. This will show that there are 1697 for you to review but not which ones you should be using. By calling the BCAS Technical Department members can be advised as to which Standards they and their customers should be using as their route to compliance and best practice.
