Haighs Bakery upgrades compressed air system with Boge (Nov 2011)

22 November, 2011

Haighs Bakery has recently upgraded its compressed air system with a Boge C 7 LDR screw compressor.Haighs Bakery, based in Leeds West Yorkshire, has been providing local bakeries, corner shops, schools, restaurants and catering companies with a plethora of baked goods such as bread, cakes and savouries for over 60 years. The bakery in Leeds operates 24 hours a day, 6 days a week. Ensuring that all processes operate efficiently is of paramount importance to Haighs Bakery to ensure that they can produce quality goods at the right price and with a prompt delivery time.

Compressed air is used to power the wrapping machines at Haighs Bakery. As production has increased over the last few year’s new demands have been placed on the compressed air system. Adam Haigh, director of Haighs Bakery, was aware that the existing and ageing compressor was no longer able to effectively meet these new demands and invited Boge Compressors to assess the compressed air system.

After reviewing the system, Boge recommended replacing the ageing compressor with a Boge C 7 LDR. The C LDR has proven a popular choice with many small compressed air users that require a complete and compact compressed air station. A CL series screw compressor and a refrigerant dryer are mounted on a horizontal compressed air receiver requiring only a minimum footprint. Low sound pressure values also make this the ideal choice for point of use applications. The CL series is also a highly efficient compressor solution engineered to generate high free air deliveries in continuous operation. The integration of all essential components in the compact Boge air-end module virtually eliminates external pipe-work thereby reducing internal flow losses for a highly efficient and dependable compressor station solution.A Boge C 7 LDR screw compressor was subsequently installed.

Haigh commented: “We did get a number of quotes for this project but ultimately Boge came back with the best package. A real selling point for us what the option to rent the equipment. For us this was a vastly superior option to buying – Boge maintains the equipment – the compressor just produces the air that we need and we don’t have to worry about anything else. In fact we do not touch the compressor at all. It is on 24 hours and it is computer controlled so that if there was a fault (not that we have had one) it would switch itself off, we would see a fault number and then Boge would send out an engineer to repair the fault. And on that point, Boge is local so we knew that they would be on hand if we needed them – which we haven’t done as the equipment has been running problem free since installation.

The C LDR series is available in the standard pressure of 8, 10 and 13 bar. Output capacities range from 0.240 – 2.280 m3/min and motor power 2.2 to 15 kW.
