Bosch Rexroth inspires students to work in hydraulics (Oct 2011)

27 October, 2011

Bosch Rexroth, a Core Challenge Partner of the JCB Academy, has been inspiring students working on a hydraulics challenge, which asks how the life of the London Eye could be extended. The group of year 12 students, who are currently working towards an Engineering Diploma Course alongside their Alevels, received training from Bosch Rexroth to understand how hydraulic systems work, how they are maintained and the factors that determine maintenance plans.

After the practical training at the Bosch Rexroth head office in St Neots, they moved on to the Capital to visit the London Eye. The pupils were treated to a special tour by the Eye maintenance manager, Mark Robinson, who explained the Rexroth hydraulic systems that are in place. The next day saw the tour continue with a stop at Tower Bridge, where Rexroth hydraulics are also used.

Paul Cooke, UK managing director of Bosch Rexroth, said: “This has been a rare opportunity for the pupils to gain a unique view of the London Eye and the London Bridge. Being able to show the pupils how Rexroth hydraulics are used in a real-life situation demonstrates how important engineering is to the modern world. It’s also the best way to get them excited about the fantastic careers available in this industry. After spending time with our experts the students will now be working on their projects, ready for the prize presentation in September.
