Control Gear recognised as Atlas Copco Compressors Distributor of the Year

28 June, 2018

Atlas Copco has recognised Control Gear, based in Pontypridd, South Wales, as its 2017 Distributor of the Year.

Presenting the award, Stef Lievens, business line manager of Atlas Copco Compressors’ Industrial Air Division, said: “Control Gear’s team were consistent performers throughout the year. They doubled their orders of our stationary industrial air compressors, with growth in every range from 2 kW to 90 kW, as well as making a noticeable contribution to industrial compressor sales above 90 kW. They also exceeded sales targets for both quality air and industrial gas equipment. Overall, Control Gear contributed greatly to the growth and success of Atlas Copco in the UK, across all of our business lines.”

Winning the award is a particularly significant achievement because, in keeping with many service businesses in South Wales, Control Gear faced uncertainty over the future of the Port Talbot Steel works. It has nonetheless achieved significant results within the region by growing its non-steel business and working very closely with Atlas Copco’s Compressor Technique Service division to ensure it is poised to grasp future business opportunities.

Since the early 1980s, Control Gear has been involved in the stocking, distribution and servicing of Atlas Copco systems and equipment and both companies continue to enjoy a close working relationship.

New opportunities

Commenting on his company’s award, director Mike Morris said: “I believe our success in 2017 was built on our long-established reputation as a reliable total solution service provider. As a result, our customer base has increased considerably over the last 12 to 18 months, which has provided new opportunities to assist companies in the region by lowering their energy consumption with the aid of new compressed air technologies.”

Morris continued: “The proven energy efficiency credentials of Atlas Copco products complement our mission to help customers realise cost savings and increase uptime within their everyday production activities. The compressed air market is always going to be competitive. Therefore, to continue to be successful we need to provide a good quality service along with reliable and energy-efficient technologies at a competitive price. This is something that Atlas Copco and Control Gear have in common and aim to provide every time.”
